Why Bale?
Clients that generate OCC (old corrugated container) cardboard scraps in their facilities Recycle their material in 1 of 2 ways. They either dispose of it in loose or baled form. The simple answer to “Why Bale?” is because it converts your cardboard form a cost center into a commodity. That commodity has a value, and it is our goal to pay you fair market value for your baled OCC. Nearly all major big box stores in North America bale their Cardboard and sell it on the open market. In the past, the economics didn’t allow smaller generators to realize profits from the sale of their cardboard; however, our Baler Install program changes all of that. Now you can realize substantial revenue increases from the sale of your cardboard, and the fiber will be used as a raw material to furnish and support North American Paper Mill jobs.
When you discard your cardboard in loose form, you must pay for each haul and for the rental of your disposal unit (compactor or 10-yard container). Depending on where you are located and how much you generate, this can cost you between $400 and $ 1,000 per month. The Yorkshire Group will sell, rent, or lease you a baler, and then combine your baled cardboard with that of other clients in your area to maximize the revenue you receive. The average ROI is less than 1 year. Once your cardboard is baled, it is subject to market conditions. So, when the cardboard increases, you will automatically receive an increase in monies received.
Listed below is a summary of the average cost savings of installing a baler to recycle your cardboard.
Total Savings per month $ 810.00/per month
The price paid for OCC changes monthly and could increase in the future. We always guarantee that we will not charge you for the removal of your OCC Cardboard bales. Certain restrictions apply, so please feel free to call for a specialized quote.
What We Do:
The Yorkshire Group has over 40 years’ experience in the Recycling Industry and has over 30 sales representatives in the field, sourcing new tons of cardboard for the domestic paper mills we supply. We specialize in maximizing our clients’ revenue by provide baling machines to allow our customers to process their cardboard scrap on-site and sell it directly to a paper mill. This eliminates the need to “hire” a local third-party recycling company to process your commodity, and allows The Yorkshire Group to pass those savings on to you in the form of a higher price for the sale of your Cardboard.
We sell your product to domestic paper manufactures only. We believe that supporting highly paid North American manufacturing jobs is important for our country, and we support these paper mills by selling your product exclusively to domestic paper mills.
Most of the secondary fiber generated in North America, mainly cardboard, is exported to the far east for Recycling. This supports manufacturing jobs located in other countries, whereas our program supports jobs in the Northeast.
Cardboard Bale Routes & How They Work
Every major big box store in North America bales their cardboard. They sell that cardboard for hundreds of millions of dollars every month. Home Depot, Lowes, Wal Mart, Target, Costco, Big Lots, and many other locations leave their baled Cardboard in the back of their stores. They contract with companies like The Yorkshire Group to pick up these bales. As big as these stores are, they do not generate a full truck load, or they cannot store a full truck load of baled cardboard on site. Since many of these big box stores are located in close proximity to one another, we operate trucks that combine the bales they generate, and make multiple stops until we pick up a full truck load of bales. These bales are then transported to a paper mill for recycling. This is called a BALE ROUTE. We simply keep adding as many bales as we can to the routes that we currently service. The more stops we add, the less it costs us to run our trucks, and we pass those savings on to you.
More Information About Our Bale Route Program
Companies dispose of their scrap cardboard in one of two ways—loose or baled. We exclusively represent companies that bale their Cardboard. If you dispose of your cardboard in loose form, you are more than likely paying to dispose of your material. This material must be processed or baled before it is recycled at a paper mill, as the paper mill is the actual recycler. Paper mills do not accept loose material; only baled. We have contracted with a Paper Mill, Cascades Inc., and we represent them throughout the Northeast US. They currently have over 35 trucks on the road and buy over 10,000 tons per month of baled cardboard through their Bale Route division, Metro Retail Recycling. Cascades buys baled cardboard from big box stores, including Lowes, Home Depot, Target, and Wal Mart, just to name a few. Because these companies do not generate a full truck load of material per store, the mill dispatches flatbed trailers with forklifts attached to run a “route” to get these bales picked up at several locations. We add your bales to an existing route so that the truck doesn’t have to travel as far to pick up a full load. This saves the paper mill money, and we pass those savings on to you. Loose cardboard generated at your facility is a cost center. Once you bale your cardboard, you create a commodity, and that commodity has a value, which turns your cost center into a profit center.
